Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

9 Jul 2020

Polycystic ovarian syndrome, known as PCOS, is a hormonal and metabolic imbalance of which an origin has not yet been found and is the most common cause of female infertility.

What not everyone knows is that there are different types of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), among other causes, these are the most common:

  • For insulin resistance
  • Contraceptive postpill
  • Inflammatory
  • Adrenal

PCOS for insulin resistance is the most common. Over the years, blood glucose accumulates in a way that causes hyperinsulinemia, or what is the same: Type II diabetes. Hyperinsulinemia plays a fundamental role in the onset of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome since it complicates ovulation and if there is a pregnancy, it can complicate pregnancy.

Another of the main causes is the use of hormonal contraceptive methods such as the pill for long periods.

Other causes may also be:

  • Hypothyroidism
  • Exaggerated soy consumption
  • Iodine deficiency
  • Dietary imbalance in vegan or vegetarian style diets
  • Absence or decrease of carbohydrates in the diet

If you are diagnosed with this syndrome, it is important to go to regular checkups with your gynecologist.
